For personal tax, the tax filing and payment deadline is April 30th of each year unless you or your spouse or common-law partner operates a sole proprietorship; the filing deadline is June 15th. Tax payable (if applicable) is still due as of April 30th for the sole proprietor. Corporate tax returns are generally due six months after the end of the fiscal year, with taxes owed typically due three months after the fiscal year-end.

If you miss the tax deadline in Canada, you may face penalties and interest on any taxes owed. The CRA charges a late-filing penalty of 5% of your balance owing, plus 1% for each full month your return is late, up to a maximum of 12 months. Additionally, interest is charged daily on any unpaid taxes from the day after the filing deadline. It's important to file your return as soon as possible to minimize these charges, even if you can't pay the full amount right away. With Legacy Accounting LLP, we work with you to get you back on track even after missing the tax deadline.
